"SIDDINGTON, a chapelry in the parish of PRESTBURY, hundred of MACCLESFIELD, county palatine of CHESTER, 5 miles (N. by W.) from Congleton, containing 481 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £403 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of D. Davenport, Esq. The chapel is built partly of wood and plaster, and partly of brick. Courts leet and baron are held annually at Martinmas. John Fowden, in 1712, founded a school, and endowed it with £ 8 per annum." - Siddington was a township in Prestbury ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 8471), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Colshaw Heath, Hodgehill (part), Redesmere, Thorneycroft and Whisterfield (part).
- The population was 423 in 1801, 459 in 1851, 392 in 1901, 394 in 1951, and 376 in 2001.
