  • Snelson was a township in Prestbury ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 8073), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • The population was 126 in 1801, 169 in 1851, 170 in 1901, 160 in 1951, and 157 in 2001.


  • Rostherne: St. Mary (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Snelson.
  • Over Peover: St. Lawrence (Church of England). An ancient chapel to Rostherne: St. Mary, which became the district church for Snelson in 1827.
  • Chelford: St. John the Evangelist (Church of England). The district church for Snelson from 1880.
  • Snelson, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1825.
