"WETTENHALL, a chapelry in the parish of OVER, first division of the hundred of EDDISBURY, county palatine of CHESTER, 5½ miles (E. by S.) from Tarporley; containing 297 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £800 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Over."   • Wettenhall was a township in Over ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 6261), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • It includes the hamlets of Chapel Green and Woodside.
  • The population was 228 in 1801, 294 in 1851, 214 in 1901, 154 in 1951, and 135 in 2001.


  • Over: St. Chad (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Wettenhall.
  • Wettenhall: St. David (Church of England). An ancient chapel to Over: St. Chad, which became the district church in 1720.
  • Wettenhall, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1861.
  • Wettenhall, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1901.
