"WILLINGTON, a township in that part of the parish of WHALLEY which is in the second division of the hundred of EDDISBURY, county palatine of CHESTER, 3 miles (N. N. W.) from Tarporley, containing 101 inhabitants. This township is deemed to be part of the parish of Whalley, it having formerly belonged to the abbey there, though for the performance of ecclesiastical rites the inhabitants resort to the church of St. Oswald, Chester, and pay a portion of the great tithes to the rectors of Wem and Tarvin. There is a place of worship for Unitarians." [From Samuel Lewis A Topographical Dictionary of England (1831) ©Mel Lockie]
