"CROSBY-ON-EDEN, a parish in Eskdale ward, in the county of Cumberland, 3½ miles N.E. of Carlisle, its post town. It is situated on the Roman wall, near the river Eden, and contains Brunstock, Wolby, High and Low Crosby. The village is small. The inhabitants are engaged in the freestone quarries and in agriculture The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Carlisle, value £90, in the patronage of the bishop, who is lord of the manor. The church is dedicated to St. John. The charities amount to £2 per annum." "BRUNSTOCK, a township in the parish of Crosby-on-Eden, ward of Eskdale, in the county of Cumberland, 3 miles to the N. of Carlisle." "HIGH CROSBY, a township in the parish of Crosby-on-Eden, in the county of Cumberland, 4 miles N.E. of Carlisle. It is situated near the river Eden and the Roman wall." "LOW CROSBY, a township in the parish of Crosby-on-Eden, in the county of Cumberland, 5 miles N.E. of Carlisle." "WALBY, (or Waldby), a township in the parish of Crosby-on-Eden, Eskdale ward, county Cumberland, 4 miles N.E. of Carlisle. The village appears to have derived its name from its situation near the Roman wall of Severus." "WALDBY, a township in the parish of Crosby-on-Eden, ward of Eskdale, county Cumberland."
