DIARY OF WILLIAM HONNEYWELL

Transcribed by John Honeywell

William Honnywell was a "respectable and stocky yeoman" who held lands in Ashton and Trusham parishes, and lived at Riddon farm, where he had his barn built 1599, between Trusham and Ashton, looking down over the River Teign and across to Canonteign Barton on the other side of the valley. The diary covers events in his life from 1596 until his death in 1614. There is a memorial in the form of a brass plaque in the floor of the nave of Ashton parish church. The index refers also to those named in the wills of William and his wife, Sabbian.

It was reproduced in Honeywell Heritage, the quarterly journal of the Honeywell Family Association based in the USA. My own transcript, from which the HFA version was derived, and to which the page numbers in the index refer, is from extracts published in the Western Times of 1832.
