The "Ashwater" of William of Worcester
Trans. Devon Assoc. vol. 20 (1888), pp. 306-311.

Prepared by Michael Steer
Ashwater is a village and parish in the Torridge district. It is close to the Cornish border and is about 10 miles north of Launceston. Its church is thirteenth century, with fifteenth-century windows, with an arcade that mixes the two periods. The decorated font is Norman, described by Arthur Mee as "a great treasure". This paper, read at the Association's 1888 Exeter meeting attempts to shed light on a dispute about the actual location of an "Ashwater" mentioned in several medieval documents. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
