In the Name of God Amen I George Venman of Bampton in the County of Devon yeoman being sick and weak of body but perfect and sound of memory (praised be god) Doe this first day of June 1650 make constitute and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme as followeth ffirst I commend my soule to the Almighty God And my body to Christian buriall being fully assured of a blessed resurrection Item I revoke all former wills by me at any time made Item I give and bequeath to the poore of the parish of Bampton the Sume of five pounds to be distributed amongst them at the day of my funerall and five pounds more I give to the said poore to be distributed on that day twelve month Item I give and bequeath unto James Shepheard my kinsman the sume of five pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto Cicly Tristram als Dyer my sister five pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease Item I give unto William Palmer my servant fifty shillings to be paid within twelve months after my decease Item I give unto Joseph Court myne apprentice fifty shillings provided that the said Joseph Court doe serve out his apprentice honnestly with my wife whom I make myne Executrix which if he shall faile to doe my will is that this legacye by me bequeathed shall be voyd Item I bequeath unto Prudence Wyat of Tyverton fifty shillings to bee paid with twelve month after my decease Item I give unto Mary Ball and English Ball all my wives kinswomen fifty shillings apeece to be paid in three years after my decease Item I give unto Alice Bawden my servant tenn shillings And to Alice Williams my other servant five shillings to be paid in twelve months after my decease Item my will is that if Ann my wife shall happen to be sequestered to have her goods in these unhappie times taken from her within the time wherein any of the legacies aforesaid ought to be paid Then the said legacies shall be voyd and none effect Item I give to Mr Style our Vicar twenty shillings to preach a sermon at my funeral Item to Mr Edward Amy I give my sword Item to John Ball I give my gray suite and my blew coate Item to the said James Shepheard I give and bequeath my best suite and cloake All the rest of my goods and chattells my debts paid and funerall expences discharged I give and leave to Ann my wife whom I make the sole executrix of this my last will expecting only this that I give unto John Venman of Brading(?) my Godson my gold ring And finally I doe hereby desire my Cousen Thomas Prouse of Tyverton and John Ball of Molland to be the overseers to see this my last will performed To whom for their paines I give twenty shillings apeece In wittnes whereof I doe hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare above written The marke of George Venman Signed sealed and declared in the presence of us James Style Clerke Robert Wetton (?)
