BERRYN-ARBOR, a parish in the hundred of BRAUNTON, county of DEVON, 2¾ miles (E. by S.) from Ilfracombe, containing 648 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £34. 15. 10., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Exeter and others. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. Bishop Jewell, celebrated for his controversy in support of the Protestant faith, was born here, in 1522.
