Fifth Report of the Committee on Bibliography

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol. 52, (1920), pp. 130-134.

by

R. Burnet Morris, M.A., LL.B. (Camb.)

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Report was delivered at the Association’s 52nd Totnes meeting on 21st July, 1920. The Committee was established on February 18th, 1915, to compile a new Bibliography of the County of Devon. The Bibliography to include: -
(a) Works of persons born or resident in Devon;
(b) Works printed in Devon;
(c) Works written wholly or partly in Devon;
(d) Works relating wholly or partly to Devon or Devonians.
Mr. Maxwell Adams, Rev. J. F. Chanter, Mr. Hugh R. Watkin, Mr. H. B. S. Woodhouse, Miss B. F. Cresswell, Mr. J. Northmore, and Mr. H. Tapley-Soper continued as Committee members “for the compilation of a Bibliography of the County of Devon”; with Mr. R. Burnet Morris as  Secretary.
It was reported that steady progress was made during the year under review, the number of written slips added to the collection were practically the same as last year. Much work, however, still remained. Accessions for 1919-20 were separated into three classes (1) Notes on MSS. in the Public Record Office, (2) Notes on Parish Registers, and (3) Miscellaneous Notes.
Their Fifth Report can be found in a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal that can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
