Hugh Rhodes, a 'Devonshire worthy' is described as "of the Kinge's chapell" and "Maistre of the Childre" (choristers) in the reign of Henry VIII. Little is known of his origins. Rhodes's celebrated Book of Nurture (1577) provides lessons in the behaviour expected from children and, presumably, from properly brought up adults. After all, "If a youth be void of virtue, in age he shall lack honour." The paper focuses on the court's choral life of the time, and discusses Rhode's book's contents in some detail. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
