BLACKAUTON, a parish in the hundred of COLERIDGE, county of DEVON, 5 miles (N. by W.) from Dartmouth, containing 1227 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £15. 8. 9., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Col. Seale. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, contains a Norman font, and a wooden screen richly carved. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
