Bovey Tracey, an Ancient Town: Its Story and Legend
Lance Tregoning
Cottage Publishing, 1983 - ISBN: 1 897785-02-X
Index provided by Michael Steer
Bovey Tracey is a unique Dartmoor town of great character. The author transports the reader to the past, from Bronze Age settlements to the modern era. From Civil War to World War. We are shown how our forbears lived, from the privileged to the poor.
Local historian J. Lance Tregoning was born in 1917 at Summerfields, a guest house in East Street, Bovey Tracey. His parents had a grocer's shop in Fore Street. He served in the Devonshire Regiment during the Second World War and was Church Warden of the Parish Church for 28 years. He was much loved and respected by those who knew him, and the new approach steps to the South Porch of the Church were dedicated in 1992 to his memory. . .
