Voysey Family Pedigree

By F.T. Colby (ed.)

In Frederick Thomas Colby (Ed). The Visitation of the County of Devon in the Year 1620. (1872). London: Harleian Society, p.147.

Index prepared by Michael Steer

Voysey as a family name is thought to derive from Vassy in Normandy, the family's place of residence prior to the Norman conquest. The Bovey branch of the family resided at Luscombe in that parish. Luscombe was prior to 1705 owned as part of the Manor of Bovey Tracey and was conveyed as property to Gertrude Veysey by Christopher Beale in that year. It was heavily mortgaged and passed as part of a marriage settlement from Elizabeth Veysey to John French in 1715. The Voysey family of Bovey Tracey's pedigree, together with their arms was registered in the 1620 St George and Lennard Visitation. This rare and much sought-after book was produced digitally from a copy in the Harvard University Library collection and can be downloaded from : Google Books with a search by either author or title, and also from the Internet Archive.
