Estate Duty Office Will of Dorothy Dillon, widow, of Burrington (1812)

Dorothy BATT married John DILLON on 21st July 1755/6 at Holy Trinity Church, Burrington. Dorothy and John had three children. Their eldest daughter, Dorothy DILLON, was baptised on 12th March 1759 in Burrington and married John CRUWYS on 6th June 1779 at St James's Church, Ashreigney. Their second daughter, Jane DILLON, was baptised on 16th December 1761 in Burrington and married James FORD on 13th February 1791 in Burrington. Their son John DILLON was baptised on 8th April 1766 in Burrington. He married Joan FORD on 20th July 1795 in Burrington. The will of Dorothy DILLON née BATT was proved in the Archdeacon's Court of Barnstaple on 15th February 1812. Her effects were valued at under £100. The executor of her will was her son John DILLON of Burrington. The following transcription is taken from a microfiche print-out of the will (reference 1078/IRW/D/374) supplied by the Devon Record Office in Exeter.
In the name of God Amen I Dorothy Dillon of Burrington in the County of Devon widow being of sound Mind do write and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First I commend my soul into the hands of the Almighty God and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named and touching the disposition of all my Temporal Estate I Give and dispose thereof as followeth I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Dorothy Cruwys ten shillings to be paid by my Executor one Month after my Decease I Give and Bequeath unto my other Daughter Jane Ford ten shillings to be paid in manner and form aforesaid I Give and Bequeath unto my two Daughters Dorothy Cruwys and Jane Ford all my wearing apparel to be equal divided between them by my Executor one Month after my Decease I Give and Bequeath unto my Granddaughter Dorothy Ford one Guinea to be paid in manner and form aforesaid All the rest and residue of my Personal Estate Goods & Chattels whatsoever I Give and Bequeath unto my son John Dillon whom I do hereby make and appoint full and whole Executor of this my last will and Testament And I do hereby revoke disannul and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofor made either by word of Mouth or wrighting [sic] In Witness whereof I the said Dorothy Dillon to this my last will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper have set my hand and seal this eighth Day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred & five.
