Will of Benjamin Southmead, Gentleman of Exeter [and Chagford]

In the Name of God Amen I Benjamin Southmead of Chagford in the County of Devon but at present residing in Exeter Gentleman do make this my last Will and Testament in the manner following (that is to say)I give to my Nephew John Rowe Southmead Twenty Guineas to my Niece Charlotte Southmead Ten Guineas Also I give to my Cousins Richard Jackson Margaret Jackson Mary Jackson and Grace Trend (?)five pounds each and I give to Maria Oliffe of Chagford aforesaid and Elizabeth Brealey now of Exeter Two Guineas each all which several Legacies before mentioned I direct shall be paid within three calendar months next after my decease but to be vested in interest from my death and I give to the aforesaid John Rowe Southmead my large Silver Candle Cup To my Nephew William Southmead my gold Watch & cornelian Seal in gold to my Niece Margaret Southmead my Bureau and my diamond ring marked Eliz. Rowe and to my Niece Judith Southmead my best Diamond Ring which said several specific Legacies I direct shall be delivered to the respective specific Legatees immediately after my decease All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattels Monies Securities for money rights credits personal & Testamentary Estate & Effects whatsoever (subject to my Debts ffuneral Expences and Charges of proving my Will and the Legacies hereby given)I give and bequeath unto my Nephew William Southmead and to my said Nieces Margaret and Judith Southmead equally amongst them to be divided share and share alike as Tenants in common and in case one of them should happen to die in my lifetime then I give the said Residue of my Estate and Effects unto the Survivors of them as Tenants in common as aforesaid and In appoint the said William Southmead Margaret Southmead and Judith Southmead or such two or one of them as shall survive me Executors and Executrixes of this my Will In Witness whereof I the said Benjamin Southmead the Testator to this my Will contained in one Sheet of Paper have set my hand and Seal this Twenty fifth day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen Benj Southmead
