The Rev George Anstis was Vicar of Colyton and Axmouth from 1758 to 1764. He was the son of John Anstis, Garter King of Arms, who of Cornish origin, is credited with first suggesting to Walpole, then drawing up the statutes for the Order of the Bath as a new order of chivalry. He also presided over the Coronation of George II. George Anstis was the second son of John's family of eight sons and six daughters.
