The following is an transcription of the Devon Record Office [DRO] holding - QS14/1. The document is a slim parchment covered book of hand-sewn pages. At the front of the book is to be found a record of the licences issued to Badgers; Kidders, and Licenced traders of the market place.

At the back of the book is to be found a record of Convictions for the Swearing of Profane Oaths, or the selling of 'Beer' without a licence, i.e. a record of persons appearing before the Justices giving the names, parish of residence, title, and conviction of the individuals.
