Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 14, (1882), pp. 322-328.

Crediton has a long musical tradition that can be traced through church records over hundreds of years. This paper, presented at the Association's 1882 Crediton meeting focuses on the lives and work of a number of the town's musicians, starting in the early 1800's with John Davy, composer of operas, then the blind organist Samuel Chapple, then Mr George Rudall and Mr Joseph Pollard. The paper concludes with mention of several Crediton's musicians who were alive at the time it was written. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
