In the Name of God Amen I John Snell of Crediton in the Countie of Devon yeoman being ...of body but thankes be to God of perfect memory hereby revoakeing all other Wills and testaments Doe make and ordaine this my last Will and testement the last Day of November in the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred fiftye and three as followeth: Imprimis I comende my Soule into the hands of God my Saviour hopeing to be saved onely by the merrits of Jesus Christ and my body to be buried in the Church yard of Crediton Item I give and bequeath unto Agnes Snell my Wife foure poundes a yeares lawfull money of England quarterly to be paide out of my house or Tenement Situate lying and being in the Burrough and West Towne of Crediton during her naturall life and after her decease my meaning is that the same Tenement shall come and wholy remaine unto my Execut and his Assignes during all such time tearme and interest as I shall have then to come and unexpired in the premises Item I give and bequeath unto my Sonne John Snell one shilling of Lawfull money of England to be paid within eight dayes next after my decease also I give and bequeath unto Robert Snell and Joane Snell my Grandchildren sonne and Daughter unto my said sonne John Snell forty shillings apeece to be paid within one yeare next after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto Jane Snell and Anne Snell my Grandchildren sonne and Daughter (sic) unto my sonne Christopher Snell forty shillings apeece I meane to each of them forty shillings to be paid when they shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares and if either of them doe happen to dye before either him or her shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares my meaning is that the Survivour of them shall enjoy the whole also I give and bequeath unto my God sonne Richard Snell sonne of William Snell one Sheepe or fowre shillings lawfull mony of England in lieu thereof to be paid or delivered within fourteene dayes next after my decease All the rest of my goods and Chattles not hereby given and bequeathed not hereby given and bequeathed my debts Legacies and funerall expences being paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my sonne Christopher Snell whome I make my whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and testament and I ordaine and appoint my trusty and wellbeloved freinds Christopher Snell and William Snell of Colebrooke Overseers to see this my last Will and testament performed and I doe give them for their paines two shillings a peece I meane to each of them two shillings lawfull money of England In witnesse whereof I the said John Snell the Elder have hereunto sett my and Seale ......the Day and yeare first above written the signe of John Snell the elder Sealed signed and published as his last Will and testament in the presence of us ..... the signe of James Lee the signe of Christopher Snell the elder Gilbert Greene
