Lucy's Diary is the journal of a 15-year-old American girl, Lucy Rodd, who travelled with her parents from their home in Rockford, Illinois, to England during the summer of 1870. Her account of the voyage across the Atlantic and the people and places she visited in the Westcountry and Yorkshire along the way gives a fascinating account of life in England in the mid-19th century through the eyes of a North American visitor. The Rodds journey took them from Exeter to Instow, Eastleigh, Barnstaple and Appledore, Westward Ho, Bideford, Parkham, Alwington, Buckland Brewer, Pyworthy, Halwill via Launceston and Polperro to Plymouth and back to Exeter. This book was produced digitally by Google from a copy in the Lenox Library, New York, collection and selected pages can be read online at Google Books.
Surnames in the several sections relating to the stay in Devon are each designed (D).
