Hand-Book for Travellers in Devon and Cornwall
With Maps, 243pp.
Published 1851
Printed: London. John Murray, Albemarle Street
Index prepared by Michael Steer
This index was produced from a digital copy of the book, which can be downloaded from: https://books.google.com/ Google, in partnership with a number of public libraries has sought to make more widely accessible, old, hard-to-get books on which copyright has expired. The book is essentially a touring visitor's guide, with a lengthy introductory section on the geology and climate of Devon and Cornwall; followed by chapters detailing ten "skeleton" tours. It provides a particularly interesting section on the ancient Cornish language, as well as references to the local inns (places to stay), local history, antiquities and much useful general information for the traveller. It also provides a catalogue of the aristocracy and gentry of the day.
