DOWLAND, a parish in the hundred of NORTH TAWTON with WINKLEY, county of DEVON, 5 miles (N. N. E.) from Hatherleigh, containing 196 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Sir S. H. Northcote, Bart.
