In the Goods of James Lang late of the parish of Drewsteignton in the County of Devon Yeoman - Deceased } In the Archdeacon's Court of Exeter.

Appeared personally William Lang and James Lang both of Drewsteignton aforesaid Yeomen the Sons and Executors named in the last Will and Testament of the said James Lang deceased who died on 30th Day of July 1830 and made Oath, that they have made diligent search and due enquiry after, and in respect of the Personal Estate and Effects of the said Deceased, in order to ascertain the full Amount and Value thereof; and that to the best of their Knowledge, Information, and Belief, the whole of the Goods, Chattels, and Credits, of which the said Deceased died possessed within the Archdeaconry of Exeter, (exclusive of what the Deceased may have been possessed of, or intitled to, as a Trustee for any other persons or Persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on Account of the Debts due and owing from the Deceased) are under the Value of Three hundred pounds to the best of there [sic] Deponent's Knowledge, Information and Belief. And the Deponents lastly made oath that the said deceased -- --- ---- of or entitled to any Leasehold Estate or Estates for years ----- or ---- on a life or lives to the best of their deponent's knowledge, information and belief.

This is the last Will and Testament of me James Lang of the Parish of Drewsteignton in the County of Devon Yeoman made and published the twelfth day of April One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight when of Sound Mind Memory and Understanding. I give and Bequeath unto my dear Wife Mary Lang the Bed on which we now Sleep together with the bedding belonging to the same and also my hanging press and China together with a thing of every sort of my Household Goods and Furniture for her necessary use at her election and choice.

I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Grace Lang the Sum of Twenty Pounds of lawful british Money the sum of Ten Pounds one Moiety thereof to be paid her by my Executors hereinafter named at the end of one Year after my decease and the sum of Ten Pounds the residue thereof at the end of two years after my decease. I also give and bequeath to my said Daughter Grace the bed on which she Sleeps together with the bedding belonging thereto. I also give and bequest to her my said Daughter One Pig at her decision and choice and also a square Table and a thing of a sort from my household Goods for her necessary use.

I also Give and Bequeath unto my son John Lang the Sum of Five Pounds, two pounds and ten shillings one Moiety thereof to be paid him at the end of one Year next after my decease and the Remainder thereof at the end of two Years next after my decease.

I also give and Bequeath unto my two Grandchildren George Lang and Mary Lang the Children of my said son John Lang the Sum of Two Pounds each to be paid to them respectively by my Executors hereinafter named as and when they shall respectively attain the age of twenty one Years.

I also give and devise unto my said wife Mary Lang and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural life All the Dwelling Houses Gardens and outhouses upon or belonging to my freehold Estate and premises situate on or adjoining Whiddon Down in the Parish of Southtawton in the said County and commonly known by the name of Whiddon Down Tenement to the intent that she my said Wife may receive the yearly rents Issues and profits of the said Dwelling Houses Gardens and Outhouses and every of them and apply the same for or towards her support and maintenance during her life as aforesaid or otherwise to and for her own sole use and benefit that I do hereby direct the several fields Closes pieces and parcels of Land belonging to my said Tenement of Whiddon Down shall be held and enjoyed by my Executors hereinafter named during the life of my said wife and from and after the death and decease of my said Wife.

As to for and concerning All that my Dwelling House Garden and Outhouses situate next to and adjoining the Blacksmiths Shop and now in the occupation of Thomas Earland being part of the Premises before given and devised to my said Wife, I Give and devise the same unto my Son William Lang and the Heirs of his Body lawfully to be begotten and in default of such Issue I Give and devise the same unto and amongst all and every of my other Children and the Issues of such of them as may be then dead to be equally divided between them as tenants in Common.

And as to for and concerning All that my Dwelling Houses Garden and Outhouses other part of the premises before devised to my said wife and now in the occupation of my son George Lang I Give and devise the same unto my said son George Lang for and during the term of his natural life and form and after his decease I Give and devise the said last mentioned Dwelling House Garden and Outhouses unto my Grandson James Lang the son of my said Son George and the Heirs of his Body in lawfully to be begotten And in default of such Issue I Give and devise the same unto the right heirs of my said Son George Lang forever.

And as to for and concerning All that my dwelling House Outhouses and two Gardens in the Western side thereof other part of said Premises devised to my said Wife as aforesaid and now in the occupation of William Moore I Give and devise the same unto my Daughter Mary Powlesland the Wife of John Powlesland for and during the term of her natural life And from and after the decease of my said Daughter Mary Powlesland I Give and devise the said last mentioned Dwelling House Outhouses and Gardens unto my Grandson John Powlesland the son of my said Daughter Mary Powelsland and the Heirs of his Body lawfully to be begotten And in default of such Issue I Give and devise the same unto the right Heirs of my said Daughter Mary Powlesland forever.

And as to for and concerning all that my Dwelling House Outhouses and Meadows adjoining on the Eastern Side thereof other part of the premises so devised to my said Wife and now in the occupation of my son in law the said John Powlesland I give and devise the same unto my said Daughter Grace and the Heirs of her Body lawfully to be begotten And in default of such Issue I give and devise the same unto and amongst all and every of my other Children and the Issue of such of them as may be then dead to be equally divided between them as tenants in common.

And as to for and concerning All that my Dwelling House Blacksmiths Shop Barn Outhouses and Garden other Part of the said Premises so devised to my said Wife as aforesaid And all and singular the fields Closes Pieces or parcels of land belonging to my said Tenement of or called Whiddon Down and which are now in my own occupation with all and singular the rights Members and Apprentices to the same respectively belonging I Give and devise the same from and after the decease of my said Wife unto my Son James Lang and the heirs of his Body lawfully to be begotten And in default of such Issue I Give and devise the said last mentioned Hereditament unto and amongst all and every of my other Children and the Issue of such of them as may be deceased to be equally divided between them as tenants in Common.

All the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal Estate farming Stock Goods Chattels and effects whatsoever not hereinbefore given and disposed of (after payment of my just debts legacies and funeral expenses) I Give and devise and bequeath unto my said Sons William and James their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever.

And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint them my said Sons William and James joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke all former wills by me made In Witness whereof I the said James Lang the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament written on four Sheets of paper set my hand to the three preceding Sheets and my hand and Seal to this last sheet the twelfth day of April One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight as aforesaid.
