The Church of All Saints, East Budleigh, pt. II.
Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 24 (1892) illus., pp. 219-358.
by
T.N. Brushfield
Prepared by Michael Steer
The paper focuses on the furniture and fittings of the ancient church with some excellent photographs and line drawings of the church's remarkable carved bench ends. All Saints was enlarged during Bishop Lacy's episcopate about 1420. There are references throughout the paper to similarities in All Saints' furnishings and fittings and those in other parishes. Budleigh was in those days a thriving wealthy merchant town, due to the seaport of Budleigh Haven at the mouth of the River Otter. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of Michigan Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
