LEONARD (ST.), a parish in the hundred ofWONFORD, county of DEVON, ½ a mile (S. E.) from Exeter,containing 206 inhabitants. The living is a dischargedrectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter,rated in the king's books at £4. 19. 4½., endowed with£200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, andin the patronage of Sir Thomas Baring, Bart. Inthe churchyard there was formerly a hermitage, inwhich several females successively secluded themselvesas anchorites. The mansion called Mount Radford,erected in the sixteenth century, was garrisoned duringthe parliamentary war.
