Second Report of the Committee on Devonshire Verbal Provincialisms

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol.  X, (1878), pp. 112-133.

F.H. Firth, Secretary to the Committee

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Committee’s Report was read at the Association’s July 1878 Paignton meeting. The Committee’s purpose was to note and record current and past use of any Verbal Provincialisms in Devonshire, in either written or spoken language, that were not included in the lists published in the Association’s Transactions. At this, its second meeting, committee members met almost immediately on their reappointment, and unanimously agreed on the continued use of the Resolutions adopted at the beginning of their initial Report. This its successor, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitization of books from several libraries.
