Nineteenth Report of the Committee on Devonshire Folklore

by

P.F.S Amery (Ed.)

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol.  XXXIV, (1902), pp. 83-89.

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Report was read at the Association’s July 1902 Bideford meeting. It is essentially a compendium of short sections on such fascinating topics as, for example, how to bury a witch, as well as reports of criminal proceedings in Devon courts against Fortune Tellers and astrologers at Plymouth, Bradninch and Torquay. Devon family historians will recognise many of the names in this index as frequent contributors to the Association’s Transactions. The Report, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
