The paper's author, Sir Roper Lethbridge C.I.E (1840-1919) was an academic and civil servant in India and a Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1892. He was a relatively frequent contributor to the Association's Transactions. This paper focuses on the life and times of three of his kinsmen, resident in Hatherleigh during the 17th century, all of whom were living at the time of the 1660 Restoration.
