Eighteenth Report of the Committee on Scientific Memoranda
Trans. Devon Assoc., 1894, Vol. XXVI, pp. 54-62.
by
J. Brooking Rowe F.S.A, F.L.S.
Prepared by Michael Steer
The report was read at the Association’s South Molton meeting on 1st August, 1894. In it the Association’s Science Editor asserts that in the previous year’s Association Transactions, there was an account of an earthquake shock in August, 1892, that extended apparently throughout the Western Counties. On Thursday, the 2nd November, 1893, a considerable area was again affected by another earthquake. A commentator at that time reported: - "Considering the large area affected by the earthquake that visited Wales and adjoining English counties on Thursday, the 2nd November, 1893, it is rather astonishing that so little damage was done. Several areas of Devon were affected. The article, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers..
