Report and Transactions of the Devonshire Association for the Advancement of Science, Literature and Art. Vol. II, Plymouth: William Brendan & Son. (1867-8) pp. 57-69

Transcribed by Michael Steer

Mr. John Roberts CHANTER, of Barnstaple, devoted much time and attention to the study of Devonshire literature, and contributed several valuable papers thereon to the Transactions of the Devonshire Association. The author was a friend and colleague of Barnstaple poet and philanthropist William Frederick Rock, and together in 1845 founded Barnstaple's Literary and Scientific Institute of which Chanter was its first Secretary. This rare book was produced from a digital copy held by the Ashmolian Library, Oxford University, that can be downloaded from Google Books. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. Those on which copyright has expired are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
