James Glaisher
The London, Edinburgh and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science Vol, 4, Fourth Series, July-December. London: Taylor & Francis (1852) pp. 292-302.
Index prepared by Michael Steer
The author, in a preamble to the editors of the magazine and journal writes: "Gentlemen: The brilliant meteor described in your journal of last month, as seen at Sidmouth, was remarkable in many respects. I beg to send you the following particulars relating to it". Then follows a comprehensive list of reported sightings, the majority from across Devon, but several from as far away as Belfast and Bristol. This rare book was produced from a digital copy held by the Harvard University Library that can be downloaded from Google Books. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
