by
Richard John King
Prepared by Michael Steer
Richard John KING, M.A., was a native of Plymouth. He was the eldest son of Richard KING, of Bigadon, a pleasant country house near Buckfast Abbey. He was born in 1818, and educated at Exeter College, Oxford, where he took his degree in 1841. Mr. KING became a member of the Devonshire Association in 1874, and filled the office of President in 1875. The contents of his book are reprints of articles he contributed over a period of many years to'Oxford Essays', the 'Quarterly Review' and 'Fraser's Magazine'. King was a prolific writer of handbooks on Devonshire and as well on Cathedrals and travelling. He also lectured on several esoteric topics to the Essay Society at Exeter College Oxford. His article on Devonshire appeared in the Quarterly Review for April 1859. This rare and much sought-after book was produced digitally by Google from a copy in the University of Michigan Library collection and can be downloaded from HathiTrust.
