This is the second volume in an ambitious project to record and preserve "nearly everything of interest or importance in the history, statistics and localities of each county in England". This indexed section provides a great deal of invaluable information on Devon and Devonians and is divided throughout into the following focal areas; (a) Situation and Extent, which includes boundaries, dimensions and ecclesiastical jurisdiction; and (b) Antient State and Remains, which focuses upon the "former state of the civil, ecclesiastical and military importance of the county. The author, about whom little has been recorded, produced An Architectural and Historical Account of the Church of St Mary Bury St Edmund's. He was also author of Camden's Britannia, Epitomized and Continued (1843). This rare book was produced from a digital copy held by the New York Public Library that can be downloaded from Google Books. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries.
