Comment by CAW Troyte: 'A most unfortunate season, my illness prevented me from looking after the shooting either partridge or coverts and Scutt was worse than useless, also the little shooting that was done while I was abroad was invariably met by bad weather and from what I hear the bad weather met worse shots'.

Comment by CAW Troyte: 'We turned down no hand reared pheasants to save expense and I and the boys did the shooting for the house. Scutt hardly killed a thing, but for my sickly state of health I never enjoyed a season more'. Scutt may have had an assistant as 'Keepers' is mentioned in 1894. The second Keeper may have been called Ayres.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte. 'There was a very small stock left after the war but luckily it was a very good breeding season. There were not many partridges but the coveys there were were all big. They were difficult to get at as there was very little cover. There is a good stock left for next year'.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A wonderful breeding season for all game. Partridges were very wild and there was very little cover for them. Had rather good weather for most of my shoots. A bad year for woodcock and snipe'.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A very good breeding season for all game and ... ... ... left a good stock. Rabbits seem to be getting rarer each year. Not many woodcock and snipe in'.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A bad year for partridges and poor for pheasants. Weather for most of the shoots was bad. Quite a lot of woodcock early but the weather was too hard in January for snipe'.
1929-30243155403101511154 Read, Williams, Noel, J Reid, Edgell, M and L White, Wake, Newman, Burgess, Sadler, Snow, Shelley, Wyndham, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte. 'A bad season for partridge and wild pheasants with us in spite of the fact that the weather appeared favourable. Might have shot a lot more pheasants if we had been lucky and if I had had more time. Have not seen so many pigeons in since the War but it was a bad season for woodcock and snipe, probably owing to very rough weather in November. Reared about 300 pheasants'.
1930-313270299047014121109Col Wyndham, Harold Newman, Read, Edgell, Williams, Langford, Hodgson, Fo(r)ster, M Carter, M White, Alfred Acland, Noel, Burgess, Aspinall, Bradshaw, Wake, Learmouth(?), Adm Kelly, Brumshill(?), Duckworth King, Imbert Terry(?), Inchdon Willis(?), Spencer, Rothwell(?), Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte. 'Shared the shooting with Wyndham and Newman and turned(?) down(?) about 800 pheasants. Tame birds did well but wild birds only fair. Partridges fair but better than wild pheasants'.
1931-322955294036410121970Newman, Edgell, Read, Williams, Sanford(?), Sadler, Forster, Aspinall, Noel, Imbert Terry(?), Martin, Burgess, Inchdon Willis(?), Kennard, Unwin, Rothwell, Learmouth, Burgess, J Reid , Glenman(?), Langford, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Turned down about 750. Practically all wild birds were killed by a tremendous thunder and hail storm in May. This was followed by continuous wet and cold weather for the whole summer. A good number of partridges on the Barton and at Cowlings still but the rest of the property mostly bare. W. has left a good stock of both pheasants and partridges. Very few woodcock in but more Golden Plover than I have ever seen. Rabbits nearly all died. I do not think a Blackcock has ever been shot here before. Turned down about 100 duck. They flew very well'.
1932-332862710703669191498Col Wyndham, Noel, Read, Williams, Learmouth(?), Sidmouth, Imbert Terry, Spencer, Aspinall, Alfred Acland, Rothwell, Harris, Kennard, Brillement(?), Sanford, Cran(?), Gass, Newman, Edgell, Forster, Burgess, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Turned down almost 900. Farm birds did very well but there were hardly any wild birds. Partridges did well on the whole. The worst year for woodcock and snipe I ever knew. Turned down about 140 duck. A big st... up but pheasants and partridges left for next year'.
1933-3426739144047590616151Aspinall, Gould, Williams, Read, Edgell, Burgess, Newman, White, Forster, Shelley, Noel, Martin, Learmouth, Sanford, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Farm birds and partridges did very well, but wild birds were a little disappointing. Put about 950 birds into the coverts and reared about 140 duck. A wonderfully dry summer and practically no rain during the shooting season which may account for the scarcity of woodcock and snipe. Our little syndicate worked very well'.
1934-35289432132451120121136Aspinall, Read, Ben(g)son, Edgell, Purtree(?),Sinclair Thompson, Newman, Compton(?), Williams, Burgess, Forster, A C Reed, Sanford, May, John Quicke, M Crust(?), Shelley, Balfrey, Inchdon Willis(?),Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A wonderful season for all game and we were very lucky with the weather for the shoots. A bit stock of both partridges and pheasants left for next season. ... ... ducks were a great disappointment as they all flew straight away as soon as disturbed. We reared as many as we did last year. They had been driven about by others and I think this caused their wildness'.
1935-363183825015821801125100Aspinall, Read, Williams, Edgell, E Kennard, D Newman, Duncan, Burgess, M & L White, Liddell, Chamberlain, Learmouth, Forster, Noel, Martin, Eden, Harris, Dashwood, Clayton, Gaskell, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Wild pheasants did badly owing to very cold weather in May and a heavy snowstorm on May 17th. Tame birds did well. A good year for partridges. A very wet winter but we were lucky in the weather for our shoots'.
1936-37267441182376160811125Dick & Bob Gould, Aspinall, Williams, M De las Casas, Clayton, White, D Newman, Edgell, Kennard, Burgess, Shelley, Quicke, Duncan, Balfrey, Martin, Forster, Harris, Clayton, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Tame birds did well but wild birds and young partridges were practically all drowned. A miserably wet and cold spring and summer followed by a wet autumn and the wettest January and February I can remember. Turned down 5 brace Hungarians(?) on back hill in Fillmans(?)'.
1937-382680114504661201110212Gould boys, Edgell, Gas(?), Bentley, Burgess, Aspinall, White, Williams, Liddell, Newman, Forster, Webb, Quicke, Clayton, Nicholson, Dashwood, Charles Acland, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A poor season for all wild birds, but tame birds did well. Turned down 5 brace Hungarians(?) near quarries'.
1938-3927713102044021-616158Gould boys, John Quicke, Edgell, Williams, Gus, Burgess, Aspinall, Goldsmith, Martin, Shelley, Forster, Liddell, Nicholson, Newman, Dashwood, White, Charles Acland, Hayes, Self.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Tame pheasants did well, wild birds poor, practically no partridges partly owing to weather and partly to disease. Put 1000 pheasants into coverts so we ought to have killed more, but I suppose shootings of game(?) made them strong. A good stock left'.
1940-412021949045950584Edgell, Dick and Bob Gould, Aspinall, Hocken(?), Nicholson, Williams, Forster, Quicke, Archdale, Ted Acland, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'No rearing or feeding so could not get pheasants into the coverts. Good breeding season'.

1946-47145460320206127Archdale, Edgell, Gas, Billson, David Quicke, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'The worst breeding season I have ever known and this combined with a lot of vermin and some poaching resulted in practically no partridges and very few pheasants. Deep snow in January prevented me from killing a few more rooks. I guess that a lot of birds will have died owing to the very hard and long winter'.
1947-4813552022420054Billson, Archdale, Fellows, Hayes, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A very bad breeding season combined with a lot of vermin made partridges practically non-existent. There was a fair number of pheasants as the weather was better in the early part of the breeding season. Very few Woodcock or pigeons'.

Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'About the worst breeding season I can remember'.
1954-55161370130500489Bilson, Haggart, Fellows, Donald, Frank Aldridge, Hun(?), Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A worse breeding season even than last year. Myxamtosis reached us towards the end of September and killed off practically all our rabbits'.
1955-5616630030019719Bilson, Haggart, Frank Aldridge White, Gould, Fuller, T & E Fellows, Batting, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'Another very bad breeding season for all game and as there were no rabbits vermin did a lot of harm. There were not as many pheasants and partridges as none left last year. Luckily there were more pigeons than I have ever seen'.
1956-5718188008017917Bilson, Fellows, Haggart, Aldridge, Dick Gould, Hun(?), Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A better breeding season but vermin did a lot of harm. There was a tremendous lot of duck on the Lake but they were too clever for us . Not nearly as many pigeons as last year'.
1957-58182016033013220Bilson, Fellows, Graves-Morris, Clarke, Aldridge, Pearcy, Batting, Hun(?)
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A much better breeding season we have had for some years. Very few pigeons came in and not many woodcock but I have never seen such large flocks of Golden Plover. A few rabbits are coming back. It is interesting that since Myxamotosis has killed off the rabbits . hares are coming back. I did not shoot any as they are wanted for the Broghs(?)'.
1958-597620232013010Bilson, E Fellows, Graves-Morris, Dick Gould, Aldridge, Baker, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'The worst breeding season I ever remember. We had continuous wet weather from the beginning of May till the end of December. Very few pigeons came in and although there was a nice lot of duck they were always too clever for us'.
1959-60111440182008814Batting, Bilson, E Fellows, Fields, Clarke, Thorne(?), Aldridge, Baker, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'The best breeding season we have had for a long time as we had a very dry summer. A nice lot of pigeons came in but they never settled down. Hares are increasing steadily'.
1960-61912116000365Bilson, Fellows, Thomas, Daniels, Aldridge, Baker, Self
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'The wettest season on record. Almost continuous rain from June to middle of January. A nice lot of duck on the Lake but they always did us. And then on three occasions they were put up by a fox before we got into position. Very few pigeons came in'.
1961-6212262342022614Bilson, Haggart, D & D C Thomas, Hun(?), Aldridge, Baker, Self.
1962-6324107000114Bilson, Fellows, Haggart, Frank, Baker, Self.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'A bad breeding season cold and wet all the summer and it was followed by the worst winter I can remember. We could not get ... ... out from Christmas Eve till after the middle of February, and there was so much snow we could not walk in the fields and in any case I cannot walk much on snow'.
1963-64132121130097Cap Fellowes, Anthony Shrubb, Haggart, Bilson, Maj Trollope-Ballen(?), Reeve Bilson, Jeremy Boles, Stuart Berkeley-Owen, Salaman, John Lee, Baker.
Comment by Gilbert Troyte: 'No rearing. A few pheasants here and there on the Estate. Very poor season for duck. Partridges very scarce. Gilbert couldn't shoot and was very much missed. Sir Gilbert Acland Troyte died 27 April 1964'.
1964-659280281001014Sir Jeremy Boles, Dr Graves-Morris, W Reeve Bilson, Berkeley-Owen, Anthony Shrubb, Oliver Salaman, Maund(?), Anstey, Herman Pring, Vickery.
