IDEFORD

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"IDEFORD, a parish in the hundred of Teignbridge, county Devon, 2½ miles S.E. of Chudleigh, and 41 N.E. of Newton Abbott. The village, which is small, is situated in a valley entirely surrounded with lofty trees. The soil is clay and gravel, and subsoil limestone. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £255. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Exeter, value £350. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient stone structure with a square tower. The parochial charities produce about £10 per annum. Lord Clifford is lord of the manor."
