PREFACE
THE following pages, which were intended for the press by the amiable and much lamented author, and which, owing to his repeated attacks of severe indisposition, he was prevented from publishing when living, are now printed with the design, not only of carrying in some measure into effect his intention, but also of preserving for the mournful satisfaction of his numerous and attached friends, some memorial both of his literary abilities and Christian zeal. This desirable end the Editor conceives will be accomplished in the present work, which, he is persuaded, is calculated to produce a salutary influence on the mind of the reader; and will, he trusts, be a means of advancing the spiritual welfare of many.
