LODDISWELL, a parish in the hundred of STANBOROUGH,county of DEVON, 3 miles (N. N. W.) fromKingsbridge, containing 762 inhabitants. The living isa vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and dioceseof Exeter, rated in the king's books at £26. 0. 2., and in the patronage of Francis Freke Gunston, Esq. Thechurch is dedicated to St. Michael. In 1728, R. Phillipsbequeathed a house and lands for the benefit of thepoor of this parish, the produce of which is annuallydistributed over the tomb of the testator. Blackadoncamp, an ancient military post, is in this neighbourhood.
