LOXHORE From William White's Gazetteer & Directory of Devon 1850 Transcribed by John Bishop A scattered village & parish, 5½ miles NNE of Barnstaple has 306 inhabitants & 1250 acres of land. Sir J.P.B. Chichester is lord of the manor, owner of most of the soil & patron of the "rectory", valued in KB at £9-16s-4½d & in 1831 at £190. The Rev. J.H. Chichester of Arlington is the incumbent & has 21 acres of glebe. The tithes were commuted in 1842 for £150-10s per anum. The Church (St. Michael) is an ancient structure with a tower & 4 bells.
