MARTINHOE From William White's Gazetteer & Directory of Devon 1850 Transcribed by John Bishop Slightly abridged, indicated by..............., names in inverted commas after a person's name refer to houses or farms. A picturesque village on the coast of the Bristol Channel, 3 miles West of Lynton............. Sir. Robert George Throckmorton, Bart. is lord of the manor & owner of a great part of the soil, and the rest belongs to C.Bailey Esq. & a few smaller owners. The Church (St. Martins) is an antique fabric with a tower & 2 bells. The Rectory valued in KB. at £10-10s-10d and in 1831 at £130 is in the patronage of the Rev. John Pike, and incumbency of the Rev. Joseph Dovell MA. who has 35 acres of glebe and a neat residence which was new fronted in 1843.
