First Report of the Committee on Works of Art in Devonshire

Trans. Devon Assoc., vol. 10, (1878), pp. 134-140.

R.J. King

Prepared by Michael Steer

The paper, presented at the Association's July 1878 Paignton meeting provides a catalogue of the works of art in public places and public institutions in Plymouth, Devonport and Stonehouse. The Committee's task was to collect accurate information concerning works of art "scattered throughout the county" and this was its foundation attempt. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of California Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
