PETHERWIN (NORTH), a parish in the hundred of BLACK TORRINGTON, county of DEVON, 4½ miles (N. W.) from Launceston, containing 955 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £9. 10. 10., and in the patronage of the Duke of Bedford. The church is dedicated to St. Paternus.
