OAKFORD, a parish in the hundred of Witheridge, county of DEVON, 3¼ miles (W. by S.) from Bampton, containing 474 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £10. 10. 2½., and in the patronage of Samuel Wills, Esq. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A weekly market and an annual fair were formerly held here; and a branch of the Grand Western canal passed through the parish. One of the free boys at Ayshford's grammar school at Uffculme is appointed from this place.
