The author has provided this extensive and profusely illustrated paper as an Addendum to the late Rev J Ingle Dredge's work on the topic, which he privately printed from the Western Antiquary, 1885-91. Some of the references were obtained from an article by Mr Robert Dymond, FSA in Trewman's Exeter Flying Post. Other references were obtained from The Universal British Dictionary of Trade, Commerce and Manufacture, 1793-96. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use.
