In the name of God Amen the twenty first day of April One thousand eight hundred and thirty six I Jonas Squire of the parish of Oakhampton in the County of Devon being weak of Body but of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding praised be God for the same do make and order this to be my last Will and Testament as followeth. First and principally I recomend my Soul into the hands of the Almighty God that give it and my Body to be buried in a decent like manner according to the discretion of my beloved wife if she be living and as tuching such wordly Goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give in the following manner and form I give unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Squire fourty pounds a year to be paid to her yearly and every year by Four equal quartley payments that is on Lady day Midsummer day Michaelmas day and Christmas day and the first payment to be made on the first of these days that shall happen after my decease to be paid out of my Estate called Higher Moor in the parish of Broadwoodwidger in the County of Devon so long as she shall happen to live if my right that I now have shall so long continue in the same Now if the said Anuity shall be behind or unpaid in part or in all after any or which of the beforementioned days that the same ought to be paid being lawfully demanded and not paid she shall have power to distrain on the premises for the same as I now have or as Landlords have over Tenants Now if the right that I have in Higher Moor should cease that is if the Lives should die before my beloved wife in that case I give unto my beloved wife all my Estate called Lower Maddeford in Okehampton so long as she shall happen to live but if my right shall continue in Higher Moor so long as she shall live I give her only part of Lower Maddeford as followeth that is the Lamapark Barnmeadow the New Garden lake out of the same the Orchard adjoining the Barnmeadow the Lower Cortlage¹ the Lenia² the Shibbery³ in the same Cortlage the Back Meadow the Mowhay Garden behind the Dwelling House adjoining the Mowhay with full liberty to lodge a heap of dung and to go through the Mowhay to go to and from the same I likewise give unto my beloved wife the right to keep pigs and poltery in the Cortlege adjoining the Dwelling House I likewise give unto my beloved wife All those formerley six plots or pieces of land lying between flout Meadow⁴ and Course Ground with liberty to go to and from over the Coarse Ground to the same I likewise give unto my beloved wife certin pieces of lands called Little Olixey and Course Olixey all part and parcle of Lower Maddeford Estate I likewise give unto my beloved wife all the Dwelling House with Dary Celler and all other Offices belonging thereto with the Stable the Little House newly built between the Lenia and the Shippen adjoining both the Lenia and the Shippen I likewise give unto my beloved wife All my Plate with all my other Household furniture and Beds of what kind soever I likewise give unto my beloved wife one Milch Cow and one Horse which she shall choose out of all my farming Stock I likewise give unto my beloved wife Thirty pounds of good and lawfull (1)

money to be paid by my Executor immediately after my decease I likewise give unto my beloved wife all such wood as shall be in Ricks on Lower Maddeford at my decease and my will and meaning is that my beloved wife shall have the ordering and management of my funeral and my Executor shall pay all such Expences as shall attend the same Now if my wife should happen to marry after my decease she shall lost her Anuity out of my Estate I give unto my Nephew Jonas Squire Son of my Brother John Squire five pounds a year to be paid to him out of my Estate called Higher Moor aforesaid so long as my right shall continue in the same I likewise give unto the same Jonas Squire fourty pounds of lawfull money to be paid to him one year after my decease.

       I give unto my Nephew William Squire Son of my Brother William Squire twenty pounds to be paid to him one year after my decease I give unto my Nephew John Squire Son of my Brother James Squire ten pounds to be paid to him at the end of one year after my decease I give unto my Nice Elizabeth Squire Daughter of my Brother George Squire Fifty pounds to be paid to her One year after my decease I give unto Jonas Squire son of Jonas Squire & Catherine Squire of Inwardleigh five pounds to be paid to him twelve months after my decease I give unto George Squire Son of the said Jonas & Cathrine Squire twenty pounds to be paid twelve months after my decease I give unto Thomas Squire Son of the said Jonas & Cathrine Squire five pounds to be paid to him twelve months after my decease I give unto Cathrine Squire wife of Jonas Squire five pounds a year to be paid out of my Estate called Lower Maddeford so long as she shall happen to live and as I have given Lower Maddeford to my side wife if my right in Moor should not continue I bind my said wife to pay her the said five pounds a year out of Lower Maddeford so long as she shall live in my right therein shall so long continue And as I have given forty pounds a year to my wife to be paid out of Higher Moor Now after the decease of my dear wife I give the said fourty pounds a year unto my Brother George Squire in trust nevertheless for his Son Jonas Squire and as I have given five pounds a year to my Nephew Jonas Squire Son of my Brother John Squire out of Higher Moor and there is a Covenant between me and my Brother James Squire for fifty five pounds a year my will and meaning is that my Brother James Squire shall pay no more than fourty five pounds a year that is fourty pounds a year to my Brother George Squire in Trust for his Son Jonas Squire and five pounds a year to Jonas Squire Son of my Brother John Squire and my Executor shall have no controul over Higher Moor more then to demand and receive as other Landlords demand and receive from their Tenants the side fourty pounds a year after the decease of my dear wife and the like authority to demand for receive and pay the said Jonas Squire Son of my Brother John Squire five pounds a year from and after my decease the first payment to be made twelve months after my decease Lastly all the rest of my goods and chattels money and securities for money of what (2)

kind or nature soever not hereinbefore given I give unto my Brother George Squire In trust nevertheless for my Nephew Jonas Squire son of the said George Squire and my will and meaning is that the said George Squire shall take and receive all such profits as shall arise out of my Effects in trust for his Son Jonas Squire untill he shall accomplish the age of twenty one years and if the said Jonas Squire should die before he accomplish the age of twenty one years I give his part to his brothers share and share alike And I hereby order that the said George Squire shall have the use of all such money untill the said Jonas Squire shall accomplish the age of twenty one years and shall not be accountable for any dubets that may arise therefrom and I hereby make and ordain the said George Squire the whole and sole Executor of this my last will In trust nevertheless for his Son Jonas Squire and I hereby revoke disanull disallow and make void all and every other will or wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.
