Some sixty years' reminiscences of Plymouth

Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 24 (1892) pp. 77-85.

by

W.F. Collier

Prepared by Michael Steer

The author provides an engaging and entertaining retrospective of his native Plymouth during much of Queen Victoria's remarkable reign. The paper is replete with anecdotes from the 'good old days recounted by his elders; stories about Jack Tars, Lord Morley's gamekeeper's daughter, bull-baiting, the screeching dolly ghost, the Quicksilver Mail and much about his own life during the sixty year period. The author presents a charming social history. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of Michigan Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
