Proof of age of John son & heir of Thomas de Keynes deceased, taken at Wynkelegh, Saturday after St. Nicholas 47 Edw. III. [Saturday 10 Dec. 1373], before John Matteford (1), escheator.

William Southcote, aged 50, says that said John was aged 21 on Monday after St. Clement last past [Monday 28 Nov. 1373]. Sybil, mother of said William, was godmother to said John, & William was present at the baptism.

Walter Bobbych, aged 43, says the like. Maud, his wife, died & was buried in the churchyard of All Saints, Wynkelegh, on the day of the baptism.

John Michel, aged 45, says the like. He had a serving-maid called Joan atte Were who had then borne a son, who was dead, & she became nurse to John de Keynes.

John Stone, aged 44, says the like. His kinswoman, Julia Moyoun, bore a daughter that day, to whom this deponent was godfather, she was baptized in Wynkelegh church.

William Vautard, aged 40, says the like. His uncle Philip Vautard, was chaplain of Wynkelegh church, & baptized John de Keynes.

John Caperoun, aged 51, says the like. He & Edith Nicol were married in Wynkelegh church in that same week.

Stephen Kyng, aged 47, says the like. John Jolyf, then parish clerk of Wynkelegh, wrote the age of the child in the missal of the church the day he was born.

Thomas Hoye, aged 60, John Lacy, aged 61, Stephen Coterel, aged 43, William Gyfford, aged 47, Roger Aschford, aged 58, agree. On Sunday after St. Nicholas [9 Dec. 1352?] they were with Thomas Keynes, father of said John, when Margery, mother of said John, was purified.
