Abstract of the Will of John Southcombe, the elder, of Rose Ash

This will appears to be in the writing of Rev. Lewis Southcomb. At the end by the signature is a Seal-Argent, a chevron Ermines, between three roses Gules. These are the Arms given in Burke's "General Armory" for Southcomb of Rose Ash; but they are not recorded in the College of Arms.
Will dated 31 Jany 1684(5) pr. Barum (Barnstaple) 8 May 1685
5/- to the Poor of Rose Ash 'to be distributed by ye Church-wardens and Overseers ye next Sunday after my decease'.
To my wife Julian Southcomb, my lands called Commons als Kimmins for life, remr. to my daughter Mary Southcomb.
To my daughters Margaret Southcomb, and Elizabeth Southcomb, each £40 to be put out to interest & if either die under 21, £30 to go to the survivor, & £10 to my daughter Mary Southcomb.
To my son John Southcomb, 2/6.
To my granddaughter Joan Southcomb, 2/6.
To my apprentice William Morrice
Residue to my wife Julian Southcomb, whom I make my executrix.
