SHEBBEAR, a parish in the hundred of SHEBBEAR, county of DEVON, 7¾ miles (W. N. W.) from Hatherleigh, containing 1006 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, with the perpetual curacy of Sheepwash annexed, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £11. 8. 4., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The parish is bounded on the west by the river Torridge.
