Will of William Hockin, Gentleman of Shebbear

In the Name of God Amen I William Hockin of Allacot in the Parish of Shebbear in the County of Devon do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and fform following that is to say ffirst I recommend my soul into the Hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my Body to be Buried by the direction of my Executor hereafter named And for my Worldly Goods which it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with I give devise and bequeath in manner and form following Imprimis I give unto my Sister Mary Pypar her Maintenance as long as she shall live in a decent manner Item I give unto my daughter Ann Smale one Guinea to be paid in one Year after my decease Item I give unto my Daughter Mary the Wife of Anthony Bowman five pounds a Year during her life time to her own use and her Receipt to be my Executor's discharge so that her Husband shall have nothing to say unto any Part of the said five pounds Item I give unto my Daughter Dorothy Braund Wife of Lewis Braund ten pounds and to be Paid in one Year after my decease Item I give unto my Daughter in Law Phillis Hockin two Guineas a Year during her life time Item I give unto William Hockin my Eldest Son three hundred pounds and to be paid in one hundred pounds a Year the first Payment to be made in one Year after my decease Item if my Son William Hockin doth prosecute my Executor hereafter named or commence any Lawsuit that he should be the right Heir to Allacott then my Will is that my Executor shall not be liable to pay and of the abovesaid sum the three hundred pounds and for this reason I parted with my right in that Estate in the Parish of Shebbear commonly called and known by the name of Lower Wait I wanted to borrow a large Sum of Money my Son William Hockin would not join in passing a ffine upon Allacott without he had that estate called Lower Wait first made to him am obliged to pay Interest for that sum ever since to this day As for all my Estates Lands and Leases lying in Shebbear and Brarford in the County of Devon Goods and Chattels which it hath pleased God to bless me with I give devise and bequeath unto my Son George Hockin who hath lived with me all the time (for ever)he Paying all my Debts and Legacies and this is the true Intent and Meaning of this my last Will and Testament and dated this seventeenth day of May one thousand seven hundred and seventy and four Wm Hockin Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of us Witness Wm Hicks _ Mary Hicks _ Shadrack Spry
